Professional Grade in Miniature

The 8010A's die-cast aluminium cabinet has no resonance at audio frequencies — it doesn't flex, vibrate, or add colouration. Combined with Genelec's Minimum Diffraction Enclosure design, it produces a remarkably clean, accurate sound immediately identifiable as a professional Genelec product.

Imaging and Precision

Exceptionally focused stereo image. Instruments sit in precise positions in the soundstage. Excellent for detecting panning issues, mono compatibility problems, and stereo width decisions. The image doesn't blur at different volumes the way budget monitors do.

Bass Limitations

The 3" woofer cannot reproduce bass below 74Hz usefully. As a primary monitor for bass-heavy genres it's insufficient alone. As a secondary reference, it's outstanding.

Who Is It For?

Producers who need compact professional reference monitoring — small rooms, secondary desks, broadcast environments. You're paying for Genelec precision, not cabinet volume.

Pros & Cons

✓ Pros

  • Professional Genelec accuracy in tiny form factor
  • Die-cast aluminium cabinet eliminates resonance
  • Exceptional imaging precision
  • Reliable professional standard
  • Ideal for small rooms and secondary reference

✕ Cons

  • Limited bass extension due to 3" driver
  • High price for physical size
  • Not suitable as sole monitor for bass-heavy music
  • Limited SPL at 96dB for larger rooms

Verdict

The Genelec 8010A is the most accurate monitor in its size class. The die-cast aluminium construction and professional engineering deliver a standard that genuinely matches professional studio equipment. The limited bass extension makes it unsuitable as a sole monitor for bass-heavy music, but as a precision reference in a small room, nothing beats it.
